July 17, Saturday: Hands on History Day

10 am – 5pm

Live Craft Demonstrations, History Scavenger Hunt, Make it & Take Craft, Play Old Fashion Games, Enjoy lessons in an Old Fashion Schoolroom, Make Music using a Pennywhistle, Jaw Harp, Spoons, Children's Pictures Wearing Historic Costumes, Plenty of Food and Entertainment by the Ambridge Steel Band.

 

August 2–6 Monday to Friday: Summer Day Camp

9:00 am – 3:00 pm. and 3:00 pm – 5: pm extendable option

Children ages 6–8 and 9–12 enjoy of week of fun and learning. Pre–registration and prepayment is required.

 

August 7, Saturday: An Evening in the Historic Gardens of Old Economy

6:00 – 9:30pm

Enjoy strolling through the historic gardens, Wine and

Hour d'oeuvres, Entertainment by the OEV Singers and Orchestra, Reservations required

 

August 29, Sunday: Celebrate Gertrude Rapp's 202nd Birthday

12 pm – 5:00 pm

OEV Singers to perform in the Feast Hall

Wish Gertrude Rapp, tile Granddaughter of Harmony Society founder, George Rapp, a happy 202nd Birthday with Cupcakes and Iced Tea Gertrude was arguably the first nationally known businesswoman in western Pennsylvania She was responsible for the management of the Harmony Society's silk factory, and won several national awards for designs and fabrics.

 

September 25, Saturday: Erntefest Harmonist Harvest Festival

10:00 am – 4:30 pm

Learn how the Harmonists celebrated the Harvest and prepared for the long Winter. Churn Butter, Make Apple Schnitz, Press Apples for Cider, Watch Craftsmen Demonstrate their Skills – Enjoy Site Tours, Harmonist Music and Dozens of Family Friendly Activities, Petting Zoo and Carriage Rides Homemade German Food, Gingerbread and Apple Strudel will be available at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

 

October 16, Saturday: Craft Workshops

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

German Stars, Scherenschnitte, Wood Working (making a Harmonist Lantern), Grapevine Wreaths. Pre–Registration and payment required

 

November 27, Saturday: Christmas with Belsnickel

10:00 am –12:30 pm

Children ages 6 - 12, tour the Village, make a craft and visit with Belsnickel. Parents are invited to join the party at Noon to sing to Belsnickel and take a picture or two. Space is limited.

Pre–registration and prepayment is required.

 

December 5. Sunday: Christmas Fundraiser Dinner

6:00 pm

Enjoy a very special evening combining the rich culture of tile Harmony Society with a unique dining opportunity. The dinner takes place in the Historic Feast Hall, where you will dine by lantern light. Along with a delicious meal, special musical interludes will punctuate the evening as well as an auction of unique gifts for the holidays. Proceeds of this event benefit Friends of Old Economy Village, who support educational programs and special projects at the site every year.

 

December 11, Saturday: Christmas at the Village

2:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

Tour tile decorated Village, lighting of the Christmas Tree, singing traditional Christmas Carols, musical performances, and shop for unique gifts made by traditional craftsmen at the Weihnachtsmarkt. Kids and their parents will enjoy many hands-on activities, carriage rides and das Kinderhas. Enjoy Homemade Apple Strudel and Hot Spiced Cider and delicious homemade German food prepared by member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in the original house of worship of the Harmony Society. Parking shuttle service is available.

Our Mission Statement
Old Economy Village interprets the history of the Harmony Society, a highly successful 19th century religious communal society, and preserves and interprets the unique material culture of the Society during its period of residence in Beaver County, Pennsylvania for citizens of and visitors to the Commonwealth.

The Old Economy Village was the home of the nineteenth century Christian communal group, the Harmony Society. Established in 1824, Economy was known worldwide for its piety and industrial prosperity.

ourmission The Village, a National Historic Landmark site, is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

It is located at Fourteenth and Church Streets, in the National Register Historic District of Ambridge, Pennsylvania.

The site is open April 16 through October 31. Hours of Operation are: Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Self-guided tours only. Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 5:00 p.m. Docent guided Historic tours offered Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m., Sunday at 12:30 p.m. & 2:30 p.m.

 

Please allow 2 hours for your visit. Visitors wanting guided tours of the site should call ahead for daily tour times. Hours may be subject to change. Admission is charged

  • Youth – ( 3 - 11 years) $6.00
  • Senior Citizens – ( 65+ ) $8.00
  • Under 2 years – No Charge
