Blacksmithing

Step into the heat and history of the forge with our introductory and intermediate blacksmithing classes, held in Old Economy Village’s fully equipped, 19th-century-style blacksmith shop. These immersive, hands-on classes offer adults a rare chance to experience the time-honored craft of metalworking in an authentic historic setting.

Introductory Classes are perfect for beginners and cover the essential skills of traditional forging, including heating, hammering, bending, and twisting hot metal. Under the expert guidance of experienced instructors, students will complete a classic first project—a decorative S-hook, blending both function and craftsmanship.

Intermediate Classes build on those foundational skills, offering more complex techniques and projects for students ready to take the next step in their blacksmithing journey.

Whether you're drawn by a love of history, an interest in artisan trades, or simply the thrill of working with fire and iron, our blacksmithing classes offer a unique and rewarding experience you won’t forget.

Letter Press Printing

Experience the power of the printed word—19th-century style! At Old Economy Village, our letterpress printing demonstrations and workshops invite you to step into the shoes of a historic printer. Set in an authentic period print shop, participants will learn how early printers set type by hand, inked the press, and printed each page one at a time.

Whether you're a history buff, a typography enthusiast, or simply curious about how books and newspapers were made before the digital age, our letterpress experience offers a fascinating look at the craftsmanship and precision behind early printing. Try your hand at setting type, operate the press, and take home a printed keepsake of your visit!
