Built in Harmony: Woodworking Day

Step back in time at Old Economy Village and experience the craft of 19th-century woodworking! Explore the historic woodshop, watch traditional hand tools in action, and try your hand at techniques used by the skilled craftsmen of the Harmonist community. Learn how woodworking shaped everyday life in early America—from building furniture and tools to creating the household objects that supported a self-sufficient village.
Join us at 10:30 in Old Economy Village during the America 250 celebration for a special presentation focusing on wood carving and relief printing. Afterwards, local artist Sandra Jacobs will be gifting Old Economy Village with an, original, hand carved and hand printed relief print, showcasing the grounds of the Village. Special thanks to The Genesis Collective and The Heinz Endowments as proud sponsors of a grant for the artwork. Their focus is supporting public art in Beaver County.
Sandra Jacobs is a Beaver County artist specializing in relief printing. She is represented in several southwestern PA galleries and works as an artist/educator locally.
Roots of Community: Garden Day

As part of America 250, this event highlights the role of agriculture, ingenuity, and cooperative living in shaping early American communities.
Bring the whole family for a day of exploration, learning, and connection—experience the joy of gardening and see how tending the land can bring people together across generations through interactive activities, lectures, and historic tours of the grounds.


Forging a Nation: Blacksmithing Day

Discover the power of craft and community at Blacksmithing Day at Old Economy Village, part of our America 250 commemorations. Step into the forge and explore how blacksmithing supported the daily life of the Harmony Society, shaping tools, hardware, and infrastructure essential to one of early America’s most innovative communal societies.
Visitors can watch live forging demonstrations, try hands-on activities, and learn how the Harmonists combined skill, cooperation, and ingenuity to transform raw iron into objects that sustained their community. This immersive experience highlights the critical role of craftsmanship, teamwork, and innovation in building a thriving 19th-century village, offering a hands-on connection to America’s industrial and communal heritage.
Hearth & Harvest: Cooking Day

Warm up with the sights, smells, and stories of the Harmony Society’s community kitchen at Cooking Day at Old Economy Village, part of our America 250 commemorations.
Explore how shared meals, bake ovens, and food preservation shaped daily life in one of early America’s most remarkable communal societies. Watch live cooking demonstrations, try traditional preservation techniques, and discover how cooperation, resourcefulness, and faith came together to nourish both body and community.
This hands-on experience highlights the ingenuity and teamwork that sustained the Harmonists and offers visitors of all ages a taste of history—connecting food, culture, and community in the 19th century.
