Heritage Grape Harvest Festival

Celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the Harmonists at Old Economy Village during our Grape Harvest Festival, part of the America 250 commemorations. Discover how grape cultivation, winemaking, and communal labor shaped daily life in one of early America’s most innovative communal societies.

 

Visitors can explore historic vineyards, watch hands-on demonstrations, participate in tastings, and learn about the tools, techniques, and traditions that allowed the Harmonists to transform the landscape through skill, cooperation, and devotion. This immersive experience highlights how agriculture, ingenuity, and teamwork contributed to the cultural and economic foundations of early America, offering a unique glimpse into life in a thriving 19th-century community.

 

Fun and educational for all ages, the festival invites families to connect with history, agriculture, and the spirit of collaboration that defined the Harmony Society.

Learn about fall and winter gardening, bee keeping, printmaking, crafting, weaving, processing, and other heritage skills that prepared communities for the harvesting season.

German Wine Tasting

11:00am - 12:30pm

 

Explore the rich traditions of German winemaking while enjoying a curated selection of wines inspired by the regions and heritage that influenced the Harmonist Society. Learn about the important role vineyards and wine production played in the community's agricultural success and daily life, and discover how German wine culture helped shape traditions carried across the Atlantic.

Guests will sample a variety of German wines, hear stories of the Harmonists' own grape-growing and winemaking endeavors, and gain insight into the history, craftsmanship, and flavors that have made German wines renowned around the world.

 

Must be 21 years of age or older to participate. Valid photo identification required.

Pennsylvania Wine Tasting

1:30pm - 3:00pm

 

Enjoy a tutored tasting of local wines while exploring Pennsylvania's long and vibrant winemaking tradition. From rolling vineyards to award-winning wineries, discover how the state's unique climate and agricultural heritage have helped shape a thriving wine industry.

Set against the backdrop of one of Pennsylvania's most historic communities, guests will sample a variety of wines produced across the Commonwealth and learn about the connections between agriculture, craftsmanship, and community life. The event also highlights the Harmonists' own history of grape cultivation and winemaking, offering a unique opportunity to connect Pennsylvania's past with its present-day wine culture.
